Update to Create Better Looking Simulation Plots

Back in April of 2015, I wrote a blog on how to overlay your SOLIDWORKS Simulation Plots onto a rendered image of your assembly. If you haven’t read that article, check it out here.

Now that you read it, forget it, and upgrade to SOLIDWORKS 2017. There is a new feature in 2017 named “Simulation Display”. This allows you to view your simulation results in the context of the overall assembly.

How to Upgrade the SNL Manager

With the recent release of SOLIDWORKS 2015 comes the process of upgrading your machines. If your licenses are on a network, it will be necessary to first upgrade the SolidNetwork (SNL) Manager prior to upgrading the client machines. Updating the SNL Manager allows clients to access the latest, as well as any previous, entitled versions of your SOLIDWORKS products.

Correcting File Paths After an Upgrade

It’s always exciting to install a new version of SOLIDWORKS and start diving into the new features and exploring new functionality. Rarely, though, is an upgrade completely without surprises.

Many upgrade issues can be directly attributed to incorrect File Location paths. For instance, the path to your Design Library may be “C:\ProgramData\SolidWorks\SolidWorks 2014\Design Library”, but in reality, you’d like to start using the new 2015 Design Library located at “C:\ProgramData\SolidWorks\SolidWorks 2015\Design Library”. An example of an incorrect Design Library file path is shown in the following image (the image was captured from an installation of SOLIDWORKS 2015).

Tech Support: The Good, The Better and The Best

I’ve been working this gig for two years now, and I think I’ve figured out what I like the most, and what I like the least. Seemed a little silly to me to call it the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly, because this is surely the coolest job ever – so we’re going with the Good, the Better, and the Best reasons I keep coming back for more.
