About Full Color 3D Printing

Our 3D printing services offer capabilities that you won’t find in a makerspace or a desktop 3d printer. We run industrial-tier 3D printers that run UV-cured resins through an inkjet head in a process referred to as “polyjet”. Because we use a liquid instead of a plastic filament, we can print in ultra-fine layers. This creates smooth models that rival the appearance of injection-molded plastic parts.

Blending liquid resins allows us to create PANTONE certified color models. This can empower you to eliminate the time-consuming process associated with making a high-fidelity prototype model. Parts can be printed in one piece with transparency and simulated overmolding. Finish painting and silk screening can be avoided completely with images printed directly onto parts.

What Our Customers Say

This was our first endeavor into 3D Printing. We are in the process of developing an injection-molded edge for our synthetic ice. Given the investment cost of the project (design & mold), it was mission-critical that we create a prototype.
(The expected cost of the mold is $25k, so this was not something we could leave to chance)
Your Team did a wonderful job from start to finish. The work is first-class and we are confident in proceeding with our design & mold build.
Keep up the great work & we will update you on the project as injection products begin production in a few months.

3 Easy Steps To Order Your Parts

1

Step 1: Request 3D Print

Fill out our printing request form. Our Application Engineering Team will review your part for printability. If there are any questions or recommendations, our engineers will personally reach out to you.

2

Step 2: Begin Printing Process

The team will input selected settings to our print software and send the job to the printer. Parts are then printed on our machines in our Syracuse office “Fablab”. If necessary, the support material is removed by hand or in our wash tanks.

Frequently Asked Questions About Full-Color 3D Printing

What File Format Do You Need?

In order to preserve color integrity, we need a 3MF or OBJ file format.

How expensive is it?

We have a minimum order value of $75 to cover our team’s time to evaluate your file for 3D printing and prepare the print job. Orders beyond that are calculated based on how much material is used.

How can we guarantee a PANTONE color?

Our materials and 3D printer have undergone an extensive certification process with PANTONE. We will work side-by-side with you to proof the colors by printing swatches and adjusting print colors according to your needs.

What is the smallest feature possible?

We recommend a smallest stand-alone feature of 1mm. However, we can get much smaller details when printing images or features encased in clear material.

What material is it?

We print using a UV-cured photopolymer resin. This is a liquid that turns solid when exposed to UV light. They are acrylic-based and can be sanded, painted, clear-coated, or machined easily.

What is the dimensional accuracy?

Our process will hold +/-0.2mm (0.008”). If there are any critical features that you would like given special consideration,

How Strong Are The Parts?

Parts printed in our full-color process tend to mimic the mechanical properties of acrylic, and can therefore be a bit brittle. However, they function perfectly for high-detail, full-color prototypes or figurines.

When Should I Expect My Part?

Our typical lead time is 5-7 business days, but often much faster for small orders. Our team of engineers has accumulated decades of experience and is excited to work with you to make sure the 3D prints fit your needs.
