By now, you may have heard about the 3DExperience platform and how it is the future for your CAD and data management needs. What you may not have heard about is the full range of CAM packages that are also available with Delmia NC. Well, you may have heard of this but, either way, I’m going to highlight the entry-level package and how it fits into your CNC shop.
NC Shop Floor Programmer (NSR) is the entry-level CAM package for Delmia NC on the 3DExperience platform. This package comes with a lot of bells and whistles for a basic CAM package, as well as all the benefits of being on a collaborative cloud platform.
CAM Toolpath Capabilities
Toolpath generation for mills includes 2.5 axis operations and 3-axis milling operations capable of all basic machining practices for 3-axis needs. This includes support for typical 2-axis applications such as plasma cutters, lasers, and waterjets. Take your work setups to the next level by utilizing your 4th and 5th axis with pre-positioning, which is only included with SOLIDWORKS CAM Professional and up.
This may be a niche application, but for the machine shops that specialize in 3-axis milling and 2 or 4-axis wire EDM, look no further. NC Shopfloor Programmer includes full Wire EDM tool pathing for 2 and 4-axis wire features.
Feature Recognition
Similar to SOLIDWORKS CAM, the Delmia NC CAM tools have the ability to automatically and interactively recognize CAM features. This makes it easy to interact with your 3D geometry to develop your tooling operations. Also, due to the feature development, you gain the ability to associate your CAM data fully with your CAD data. Connectivity like this makes engineering changes to 3D geometry easy to update with your toolpath.
Integrated Machine Simulation
Here’s what really sets Delmia NC apart from others. The base package includes full machine simulation for validating your programming techniques…a welcome functionality that typically requires premium CAM tools, now available to every programmer. Additionally, the collaboration on the platform is unmatched with the tools to validate CAM programs above your package functionality. For example, you can open read and simulate 5-axis toolpath programs from NC Milling Machine Programmer (NTX) role with your shop floor role.
That’s a lot of words to describe this role. Let’s simplify it in a nicely organized list.
Summary from Above:
- 2, 2.5, and 3 Axis toolpath support
- 3+2 Positioning
- 2 and 4 axis Wire EDM
- Machine Kinematic Simulation
- Automatic and interactive feature recognition
Other cool features:
- Single and Multi-Stylus Probing cycles
- Re-Usable toolpath templates
- On-the-go tooling creation
- Integrated tooling database
