Importing Models from SOLIDWORKS to 3DEXPERIENCE

This article will outline the steps to import a model created in SOLIDWORKS into the 3DEXPERIENCE platform. By utilizing this process, models will remain linked between SOLIDWORKS and 3DEXPERIENCE, with any changes made to the SOLIDWORKS model reflected on the 3DEXPERIENCE platform.

1. Opening SOLIDWORKS

1.1. If open, close the SOLIDWORKS desktop application. To import SOLIDWORKS files to the 3DEXPERIENCE platform, you will need to work from either SOLIDWORKS Connected or the SOLIDWORKS Add-In on the platform.

2. Open Design File

2.1. Open your SOLIDWORKS file as you would normally from either the File dropdown menu or File Explorer.

2.2. SOLIDWORKS Connected and the SOLIDWORKS Add-In both allow you to save designs to the cloud. To better understand a part’s status and where it is currently saved, click the blue compass to open the 3DEXPERIENCE Task Pane Tab.

3. Saving to the Cloud

3.1. The 3DEXPERIENCE Task Pane or MySession Window shows you the Save Status of your current design. If there is a orange floppy disk icon in the Status column, that means the part has not been save to the 3DEXPERIENCE platform.

Note: A part can be saved locally, but that does not mean it is saved to the Cloud.

3.2. When you right-click on your design in the 3DEXPERIENCE Task Pane you will be presented with two different options of how to save your design: Save or Save with Options. Save, will save the part with default options to the cloud. Save with Options allows you to specify various aspects of the save, such as: saving to a specific bookmark, creating a new revision and checking the maturity state.

3.3. After the design is saved and the conversion status has changed from yellow to green, it is now ready to be opened in 3DEXPERIENCE. by clicking the blue compass in the upper left corner of the 3DEXPERIENCE Task Pane and selecting the app from the 3DEXPERIENCE Platform.
