We released a Tech Tip on making an Easter Bunny Peep ice-cube tray using SOLIDWORKS’ Combine tool. If you missed that Tech Tip, you can watch it at the bottom of this post. We talk about using the Combine tool and the different options that it has. There are three different ways to use Combine; you can add, subtract, and find the common area of two different bodies. You will need a multi-body part for this feature. The Combine feature lives under Insert>Features>Combine.
The common function allows you to add two bodies together, and keep the area that is common to them. To use this feature, we will select the common button, and then under Bodies to Combine, select the two bodies.
This removes the sections of our two bodies that don’t overlap with each other. So we go from having the picture below on the left, to the picture below on the right.
Another function is the subtract feature. This asks you to select the Main Body, and then under Bodies to Combine select which body you want to remove.
This will create a negative of the body to combine in the main body.
Last is the add function. This allows you to merge multiple bodies together into one. We will want to select all of the bodies that we wish to combine together under the Bodies to Combine section.
Now that the ice cube tray is finished I can go ahead and make those bunny peeps! I surely don’t have to worry about them melting yet!
